  1. More powerful search function accross the entire app

    I think BOTH the web-based app and desktop app need more powerful search across the entire article database; article keywords, abstracts, publication notes, text within the PDFs, internal PDF notes/highlights, etc. The internal PDF search is good for a single PDF, but this functionality needs to work in search for all available articles and content. As a writer/researcher I'm tying together ideas/notes from hundreds of articles and these need to be instantly searchable alongside the article content.

    Google Drive is the only app that can satisfy this search requirement. If colwiz could take that functionality, or integrate with google drive,…

    Firstly, thank you for your valuable comments, such feedback is integral to continuous improvement of our software. Our search function is undergoing substantial modification at present. Currently we are focusing on expediting database searches to minimise delays when users search and add new references to their colwiz Library. This process is nearing completion, at which point we aim to incorporate more of the search functionality you describe, into both our Desktop and Web applications.

    Regarding your side note, we agree that several companies fail to the hit mark by trying to address too many concerns through one application. However, we believe our core objective, which aims to accelerate research by providing reference management, collaboration and productivity features in an all-in-one workspace environment, will help save researchers time by not having to switch between applications.   2. Correcting details of an article

    Some of the citation data may not be correct or incomplete. You have provided an option to edit the fields of each citation entry manual. Considering the tools already available in Colwiz, that is not an efficient solution. I am suggesting for you to make this correction of citation details automatic by using online searching of Google scholar or any other database where such information available.

    Many thanks for your suggestion. We have a variety of exciting updates that are due for release in the coming weeks – please standby! Currently, using an article’s doi to source correct citation information through the 30+ databases in colwiz is a quick and easy method to update entries that display incorrect info.

  3. Enhancing PDF saving

    When saving a PDF on a drive, automatic naming based on cilation data will be great e.g. FirstName_date_title.pdf

    Saving all the PDF from a folder at the same time will also be great - We may need to make a backup or to share a folder content.

    PDF preview side panel will be a great enhancement. One best remembers a paper by its visual appearance.

  5. lab notebook

    Hello colwiz team,

    I think that an electronic lab notebook where we could add for example information of some experiments and together add the output of the experiment as some pictures or charts in the same page would be very useful. In this way we could keep on track about all experiments and compare them... I know that in the description part of a task where we could describe it, but if we could insert all information in a specific label developed for it it would be much better...

    We do have plans to revamp our Tasks management interface and introducing more sections for storing/displaying more information will be something we’ll work on.

    You make a great suggestion about having an area for displaying results and outcomes. We’ll surely take this into consideration. Thanks for posting :)

    Could you integrate Dropbox? That would be awsome.
    Other managment programs are doing this integration (like Azendo and as far as I understand Asana was going to also.)

  7. Importing Mendeley's notes and pdf annotation would be nice!

    I am one of the ones who spent quite some time relying on apps like Mendeley. colwiz has more to add to the competition, which can be worth dealing with the fact that notes and annotations created in, e.g., Mendeley are not imported here.

    It would be nice to see this feature available. Thanks!

  10. Tell the user whether import succeeded ot not

    At the moment it can silently fail, perhaps because the paper is already there, and perhaps not.

  11. adding functionality to import simple webpages (as part of the web importer)

    Would be great if users could add a snapshot of any webpage to their library through the web-importer.

    This is something that’s been internally discussed about. Ideally we’d love to have this feature built into our web Importer. Let’s see how it plays out.

  12. Improve metadata collection from imported citations

    Even if I imprt the publicatoin from pubmed the metadata like volume, pages, year don't get automatically improted. This need to be fixed urgently otherwise it will cost us so much time to do it again.

    When adding new references. In the bibliography, the "accessed" date in the citation is wrong. It doesn't show the correct date.
    It would be nice, if it showed todays date.

  14. iPad annotations in PDF

    I would suggest that instead of you developing the perfect pdf reader for e.g. iPad - simply let the Colwiz use any pdf reader as a 3rd party plugin. Important is though that one can annotate and sync afterwards.

  15. Citelighter like notes, send to word...

    It would be awesome to create notes like in Citelighter, where we can later order and select the notes that we want to export to word with citations, this way we can research, read, annotate and at the same time we are already somehow creating the end document (paper, thesis...).

    it is better allow to organize articles into different folders. at this moment one can not move articles into folder just copy ... which duplicate articles in library .

  17. 'Active' daily keyword searches

    There is another reference manager which you can define a set of keywords. It obviously does an automatic daily trawl of a subset of the search engines and if there are any papers which match any of the keywords, it will add them to a folder in your library automatically, as well as sending you an email about the new papers.

    I really like the interface, feel and usefulness, but I'm still torn between another reference manager and Colwiz because of the lack of this feature....

  18. implement tags (in addition to the existing keywords)

    The keyword list of my library is spammed with automatic keywords from pubmed which makes it difficult to find my own personal keywords. I think a good way around this would be to allow the user to not import these predefined keywords when importing a paper. Alternatively, a new type of keywords, e.g. tags, could be used to separate personal and automatic keywords.

    The ability to search for personal keywords is definitely supported by our Desktop Library. If you select “View as table” option on top while you’re present in the keywords page, you’ll see a search bar on top which will allow you to search for keywords that you have personally assigned to references.

    However, we do see your point. The navigation in this particular case can be improved..

  19. Smoother editing within the Desktop App

    When viewing publications its quick and easy to add notes to an article, but the editor for everything else (keywords, authors, year, abstract, etc) is clunky and difficult to edit. Can this be improved?

    Perhaps if the article info could be extracted from PDF uploads this would not be such an issue.

    Many thanks for your feedback, it is invaluable to the improvement of colwiz. At present, we are undergoing some significant engineering changes, where we are implementing the modern utility of HTML5 technology in place of previously used Flash software. This should greatly enhance the features that are causing you concern.

    To address your second question:

    The colwiz Library is designed to extract metadata from an imported PDF. However, PDFs with illustrative content can cause issues for metadata extraction. In such instances, you can use the DOI search to append reference metadata to any article missing citation information, which is in your colwiz Library.

  20. move discussions from one project to another

    There are the cases that I happened to start a topic/ share thoughts in a wrong project. I couldn't find any function to move this topic to the project I would like it to be. So I have to delete the original flow of discussion then type them letter by letter (or copy/paste) in the right place. It is troublesome. It couldn't be better to have an option of 'move to' than ' x (delete)' at the upper right corner or than 'like' and 'comment' at the bottom of each dialogue.
